European Heritage Days at TMP

To protect and promote cultural heritage, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography participates in this year’s celebration of European Heritage Days, at 23,24 and September 25, 2016.
The events in all regions of Europe are carried out under the general slogan “Europe, a common heritage”. Greece participates in the celebration of European Heritage Days since 1996. The overall coordination of the program by the Council of Europe, aims to strengthen the common European identity and intercultural dialogue and therefore to encourage cross-border cooperation.
The theme of the European Heritage Days for the biennium 2015-2016 is dedicated to “Violence and Tolerance”, giving the opportunity to consider the historical role of the concept of tolerance as a key factor in the political and cultural scene, as it reflects the ideal democratic society, when simultanuously violence resistance to this ideal.

“Music without borders”, at 20: 00-21: 00, TMP

Music event with Ziad Rajab, who was born and raised in Aleppo, Syria, and since 1988 lives in Thessaloniki. He has collaborated with many artists, including Ross Daly, George Dalaras, Glykeria, Socrates Malamas, Helen Tsaligopoulou, Estoudiantina. In 2000 he released the CD “Mawjet Tarab” with his own compositions and in 2009 released the CD “Mediterranean Voices” in which Ziad Rajab and George Dalaras interpret the traditional song of Syria “Nawet Asibak”.

“For a better life in a new country”, time 18: 00-20: 30, TMP

• Tour of the exhibition “Another Life: Human streams / Unknown Odysseys” on immigration and refugee crisis, presented at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. The tour will be carried by the Director of TMP and curator of the exhibition, Hercules Papaioannou.
• Event speech and discussion with the participation of people who have experienced, recorded and studied immigration and refugees. Speakers: Pulitzer award winner photographer Alexandros Avramidis, lecturer of the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, University of Macedonia and President of the Greek Union for Human Rights, Kostis Tsitselikis, journalist and award-winning documentary producer Paul Nerantzis, Iranian refugee Yakub Alizante and Afghan refugee Rezouan Mengkal.

“Violence and tolerance through the lens”, at 19: 00-20: 30, Archaeological Museum of Florina

Speech event, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, which attempts to highlight various aspects of the refugee-immigration problem through their photographic fix. Speakers: the Director of TMP Hercules Papaioannou, photographer Konstantinos Tsakalides and photographer Alexander Avramidis.

The events frame the exhibition “Another Life: Human streams / Unknown Odysseys” of TMP, which captures the refugee issue.
As part of the celebration of the European Heritage Days 2016, admission to the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography will be open to the public on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September, from 17.00 until the end of the events.
