History and Theory of Photography seminar at ThMP

The Thessaloniki Museum of Photography organizes a seminar in history and theory of photography instructed by photographer Paris Petridis. Starting from a selfie at the beginnings of the medium in 1840, four intermediate stations and ending with a farewell to film at the dawn of the 21st century, he will present, analyze and discuss transformations of photography. The central concept around which aesthetic trends, performative practices and interpretative theories will be developed is randomness. The seminar aims at understanding the syntax and meanings of the photographic image and is aimed at professionals, ambitious amateurs, students, art-lovers.

The course duration is 18 hours and will be held every Friday from March 3rd to April 7th, 2017 between 18:00-21:00.

Participation fee: 80,00 EUR / person for all courses.

Registrations until Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Due to limited seating will be a priority. Participation is confirmed by paying tuition.

Paris Petridis studied economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at New York University and photography at the University of Sunderland (PhD). He works as a photographer and photography teacher. He has published seven books of which the latest is The Void and the Country (Blue Sky Books, 2o16).
