Illustration of photographic portrait: representation and expression

“A portrait! What could be simpler and more complex at the same time, more obvious and deeper”– Charles Baudelaire, 1859

The Thessaloniki Museum of Photography organizes a photo portrait seminar with photographer Ioanna Fotiadou. Portrait as a genre covers most of the photographic activity. During the courses, the concept of photographic portrait will be defined and its genres will be identified, while a brief historical review will be made through the history of photography. In addition, its techniques will be analyzed and topics such as the “ritual” of the process and the importance of “chemistry” in communication will be discussed. The seminar is theoretical and practical, it is addressed to those with basic knowledge of photography and will include suggestions enriched with audiovisual material, discussion and criticism of works, weekly exercises, final work, as well as an organized visit to a photo studio.

The duration of the seminar is 15 hours and will take place every Friday from May 12 to June 9, 2017 and from 18:00 to 21:00.

Participation fee: 60 euro / person for all courses.

Entries will be issued until Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Due to the limited number of seats, priority will be met. The participation is confirmed by the payment of the tuition fee.

A prerequisite for participation in the seminar is that the participants have a camera.
