Giakoumaki Nagia (1967 – )

Born in Athens in 1967. She studied photography in Focus School of Audiovisual Studies in Athens (1986-1988), at West Surrey College of Art & Design and at London College of Printing (Bachelor of Arts -Hons 1988-1991) & (Master of Arts 1999-2000).
Between 1991 and 2002 she worked on the field of art education and lectured extensively on the topics of Photography and Culture and History of Photography in Athens.
In 2009 she was awarded a PhD for research at the department of Creative Curating of Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK).
Nayia has extensive experience as a freelance project manager and has delivered amongst others complex projects such as the pilot phase for the Art Council’s Art Awards (2003), ArtTextiles 3 with the curating students at Goldsmiths University (2004), FeedBack Project in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery and Goldsmiths project (2003-2007). Currently she works as curator of the Archive Gallery at the Whitechapel Gallery, London. She has realised art projects for Museum of Contemporary Art, Rio de Janeiro, the Goethe Institute in Athens and a major commission for the Athens Olympics.
Since 1999 she is based in London.
