Ehrmann Gilles (1928-2005)

Gilles Ehrman was born in Metz. His course started in 1955 with the publication of his first book under the title “Provence Noire”. His main influences from art cinema were August Sander and Paul Strand. In 1957, he becomes a member of the group “Réalités” and together they will travel till 1970. From these travels, his works “Gens d’URSS” and “Les européens” will come to life. From 1960 to 1976, he focuses on his project “Œdipe Sphinx”, which concerns the presence and repsentation of death. At the same time, an important part of his work is devoted to architecture. After a proposal by André Bloc, he starts working at “Architecture d’ aujourd’hui” and becomes “the settler of imagery” for the projects of Jean Willerval, Claude Parent, and André Jacqmain. In 1980, he publishes two series of works, “Le compagnonnage: chevalerie errante” and “L’air de Paris.”
