Eric Bance (1948 – )

Born in 1948 near Paris, the French photographer Eric Bance, got in touch with photography in the early 80’s, when he attended the evening courses at EFFET Photo School in Paris. It wasn’t long before he began his photographic journey by taking pictures of the Greek islands, a project that is still in course.

Bance works on small or medium format, with analogical equipment and he uses a variety of techniques, with a preference for the pinhole photography in color and B/W prints. He produces his B/W prints via the traditional darkroom technique.

His solo exhibition “Cyclades” was presented in the Parisian Galerie Samy Kinge in 2001. In 2008, Bance participated in PhotoBiennale, organized by TMP under the theme of “Chronos”, with a solo exhibition entitled “Suites Cycladiques” that was held in the National Bank Cultural Foundation in Thessaloniki. A catalogue for the exhibition was published by Thessaloniki Museum of Photography and Trans Photographic Press.
