NEW IMAGES

On 7th December 2001 the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography opened its doors to the public for the first time, the occasion being the official opening of the exhibition New Images, curator John Stathatos. The exhibition remained open until the end of January.

Among the New Images on display were works by 10 contemporary Greek photographers:

  • Konstantinos Vavylousakis
  • Yiorghis Yerolymbos
  • Hector Dimisianos
  • Natassa Kotsabasi
  • Christos Koukelis
  • Yiannis Konstantinou
  • Eleni Mouzakiti
  • Effie Palaiologou
  • Penelope Petsini
  • Athina Chroni

New Images provided the sequel to the major exhibition Image and Icon, a retrospective appraisal of the work of Greek photographers over two crucial decades (1975-1995). In the words of John Stathatos: 'the exhibition has demonstrated in the most successful manner the coming-of-age of Greek artistic photography, highlighting its youthful exuberance while also reminding us of its debt to the New Greek Photography of the years '75-'95'.
