From 9 to 13 May 2018, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography participates in the international festival of culture for young people of the European South #SKG Bridges Uprising Art & Culture Festival, in collaboration with Stereosis Photography. The photographic series “Common Places / Parallel Stories I, II, III, IV”, edited by Kosmas Pavlidis and Emmanouil Papadopoulos, attempts through a multilevel photographic narrative to detect common representations and varied differences in lengths and backs the European south and the Balkan Peninsula. A total of 38 photographers from ten countries are touring in the European Mediterranean and the Balkans, in intimate or uninhabited places that are socially and politically mutated, having for the first time perhaps the same orientation as that of the United Europe.

Manos Mylonakis accompanies the photo screenings as (DJ-SET) music selections from his own discography. Musical themes from theater and cinema that give birth or being born by the images compose another parallel sound story in the courtyard of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.

The musical part of the event will act as a backdrop to create the right atmosphere to highlight the work of photographers. The soprano Mariantzela Hatzistamatiou and accordionist Nikolas Papathanassiou have chosen traditional melodies mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries and in some cases without a precise timing. Their performance will be released freely with improvisational elements depending on the stimulus of the projected photo. The two artists chose to present songs from another era, without acoustic reinforcement, respecting and inspiring from the historicity of the place so that the old embrace and accommodate the new.

Manos Mylonakis musically accompanies the photographic screenings by producing live electro-acoustic sounds, mixing elements of the Mediterranean with contemporary neoclassical music. Piano, synthesizer and classical string tones accompany and co-create parallel stories in the emblematic venue of the amphitheater of the ancient Roman Market. On stage with the composer: Eliso Papastratis (violin).
