COSTAS BALAFAS ARCHIVE (1920 – 2011)

He was born into a farming family in Kypsali Artas in 1920. He photographed the Greek Resisatnce and after the war was employed in the Public Power Corporation’s photography department. While the harsh conditions of the war and the struggle of the people of Epirus for survival and success had catalytic influence on his psyche, his style and choice of subject matter, he developed into an acute and perspicacious documentarian of Greek tradition and folk art.
