Joan Barker is an award-winning photographer living in New York’s Hudson River Valley. Her photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the country and overseas. Her one-person shows include O K Harris in NYC and Friends of Photography in San Francisco.
Internationally, Joan’s work has been included in exhibits at the Photographers’ Gallery in London, Photohozos in Athens and the Internationale Fotoage Herten in Germany. Her group exhibitions include the Lana Santorelli Gallery, NYC; Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY,; Cooper Union, NYC; the California Museum of Photography in Riverside, CA; and Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, NY.
Joan’s photographs are also included in numerous collections such as at The Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ, and the New York Public Library in NYC. She is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Artists’ Fellowship, The Village Voice Photography Grant and two Center for Photography at Woodstock Fellowships.
Joan completed her MFA in photography at the State University of New York at New Paltz where she has been teaching for more than ten years. Joan has also taught at SUNY Albany and Empire State College in New York City.
