Barbara Smith was born in California. She studied painting, art history and theology at Pomona College and did her postgraduate studies at the University of California. During her studies at the university, she and other artists founded the experimental gallery “F-Space”. She has won awards and has excelled during her course. She made dozens of solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group ones in the U.S. and elsewhere. In 2005, a major retrospective exhibition of her work was held at Pomona College Museum of Art and then at Kennedy Museum of Art at the Ohio State University entitled The 21st Century Odyssey Part II: The Performances of Barbara T. Smith. Her projects are presented in books and catalogs, while they are in the collections of institutions, such as Frac des Pays de la Loire in France, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, etc. http://www.barbaratsmithart.com/
